What’s Included with the Aquashower?

Each Aquashower package includes everything you need to filter the chlorine and particulates out of your shower water. It includes the Aquashower shower water filter plus one extra replacement filter cartridge.

How Hard Is It to Install and Maintain the Aquashower?

The Aquashower water filter for shower heads is quick and easy to install and maintain. You don’t need any special hardware, tools, or professional help - just unscrew your existing shower head and attach the Aquashower between the pipe and the shower head. The Aquashower itself can be unscrewed into two halves to take out the old filter and put in the new filter. You can have it up and filtering your shower water in minutes.

What’s So Special About Your Shower Water Filters?

Here’s something a lot of people don’t realize: the most common water filtration media is activated carbon in some form or another; the problem is, activated carbon doesn’t work as well at higher temperatures – especially the higher temperatures found in a shower or bath. Because of this, Multipure uses special filter media – KDF-55, specifically designed to work at the high temperatures of a shower and bath. That, plus the addition of some crystalline quartz in the formula, gives you not just a cleaner shower, but a shower that feels more refreshing and invigorating.

What Is KDF?

KDF is a combination of 50% copper and 50% zinc. It helps with the removal of free chlorine by reversing the electrochemical process that originally separated the chlorine from sodium in a brine solution. This is how it works in our shower water filter: Copper and zinc are dissimilar metals. The tension between these metals tends to generate between 900 and 1100 millivolts of electricity in an aqueous state as water passes through the media. This is enough electricity to generate a galvanic charge, which reestablishes the original electrolytic environment that liberated the free chlorine. The chlorine is now able to recombine with the most prevalent metal in the water, which is usually calcium, to form a soluble chloride, this washes out of the filter and is harmless to humans.

Why Is It Important To Remove Chlorine From Our Shower?

Besides the damage that chlorine can do to your hair, another aspect to be considered is your skin. When we shower with chlorinated water we are essentially exposing our skin to a relatively large volume of a dilute chlorine solution. Some of this chlorine reacts with the oils in the skin to form chlorinated compounds and it is these compounds which may then be absorbed by the body. More likely than not, considering the strong oxidizing power of chlorine, that regular exposure to chlorinated water serves also to promote the aging process of you skin, not unlike the effects of extended exposure to sunlight. Moreover, chlorine may actually enhance the aging effects of ultraviolet radiation by reinforcing the process of cell deterioration.
